Effectivness of non-Pharmacoligical Nursing Intervention Program On Female Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract:
Many non-pharmacologic treatments are available for Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), including exercise, diet, massage, counseling, stress reduction, physical therapy, and surgery. The aim of study was to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological nursing intervention program on female patients with rheumatoid arthritis. A quasi experimental design was used in this study. The study was conducted in outpatient clinic, department of rheumatology and rehabilitation. A purposive sample of 80 female patients suffering from RA divided into two groups study and control were included. The study lasted from the beginning of June 2015 to the end of April 2016. Three tools were used for collection of data. A structured interview questionnaire tool for patient consisted of personal characteristics of female patient and patient’s knowledge regarding rheumatoid arthritis, Lawton Instrumental Activities of daily Living (IADL) Scale, and Oswestry Disability questionnaire. The study finding revealed that, there was a significant improvement in knowledge and practice of female patients with rheumatoid arthritis in post and follow up phase of program in study group. Also, the patients showed high independent level regarding ability to perform ADL. In addition to there was significant decrease in pain and disability for patients in study group. It can be concluded that application of non-pharmacological nursing intervention program for female patients with RA showed an improvement in patients' knowledge which can reflect an improvement on their practice. It is recommended to apply non-pharmacological intervention program for patients with RA at different settings help in decrease the number of patients showing up with pain and disability.
