Background: Myocardial infarction (MI) considered as one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and adherence to cardiac medications play an important role for prevention of recurrence of disease and other complications Aims: The aim of the study was to assess factors associated medications adherence for patients with myocardial infarction. Research design: A descriptive design was utilized. Setting: This study was conducted at outpatient cardiac clinics at Zagazig University hospitals, Egypt, a purposive sample of (100) patients with MI. Tool of data collection: was an Interview questionnaire to assess demographic characteristics of studied patients and to assess factors associated with medication adherence. Results: current study revealed that (65%) of studied patients were males, (70%) were educated, (61%) had MI for more than three years, (54%) had satisfactory knowledge about disease and treatment, (78%) had negative believes about the disease and treatment, therapy related factors affected in (22%), healthcare team and system affected in (11%), total physical score affected in (31%), health condition affected in (30%) and (90%) of studied patients had affected social support. In logistic regression, education and total physical score were positive predictor for medication adherence with p value was (0.009 and 0.008 respectively). Conclusion: The study finding concluded that several factors affect on medication adherence as education, physical score, social support, health belief, therapy related factors, and health team and system related factors. Recommendation: Further studied to assess adherence to therapeutic regimen of patients with myocardial infarction. Keywords: Factors, Medication Adherence, Myocardial Infarction
