Efficacy of Nursing Intervention Program for Epileptic Adolescents on Self- Management and Lifestyle

Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention program for epileptic adolescents on improving their self-management behaviors and modifying lifestyle issues. A prospective quasi experimental design was conducted on a purposive sample of 50 epileptic adolescents. Three tools were used for data collection; a structured interview questionnaire, Adolescents' knowledge Profile and Epilepsy Self-Management Scale. The results reported a significant differences in epileptic adolescents' self-management behaviors and lifestyle management after implementing the program (P <0.01), as the total self- management mean scores increased from 85.52 at pre-program to 125.2 at post-program. It could be concluded that the program has a profound effect on enhancing self- management behaviors and healthy lifestyle issues in epileptic adolescents. Self-management strategies and lifestyle issues should be discussed with epileptic patients to qualify them coping with their lifelong disorder without obstacles and with better quality of life.
