Children with Down syndrome have phonological awareness deficits that might be reduced by music therapy. This study aimed at enhancing phonological awareness among children with Down syndrome by developing and administering a music therapy program, examining its effectiveness, and effect transfer after administration and throughout the follow- up period. Participants were 14, 7- 9 year- old- children with Down syndrome from Zagazig divided into two equal and matched groups; experimental and control ones. Experimental method was used, and tools administered were Stanford- Binet intelligence test, phonological awareness scale for children, and music therapy program developed by the authors. Results revealed the effectiveness of music therapy on enhancing phonological awareness among children with Down syndrome. It was concluded that music and its various components could be used for behavior modification among those children. Keywords; Phonological awareness, Down syndrome, music therapy.
