The Effect of aged garlic extract(AGE) on oxidative stress induced by chlorpyrifos toxicity in albino rats

Abstract:
Forty eight male Wistar strain albino rats 130- 150 g wereobtained from the Animal Breeding House of the National ResearchCentre (NRC), Dokki, Cairo, Egypt. They were maintained on basalration and tap water ad-libitum and photoperiod 12L/12D cycle. Thepresent study was carried out to evaluate the protective antioxidanteffect of AGE to ameliorate the deleterious effects and restoring thealtered biochemical enzyme activities in CPF induced toxicity in malealbino rats with regard to its effects on the body weight, male fertility,oxidative stress, DNA damage (comet assay and detection of 8hydroxy- 2deoxyguanosine) and histopathological studies of lungs,brain, kidneys and testes.1. Effects on body weightsThere were non significant differences in body weightsbetween the eight groups at the beginning of the experiment. Thepresent study revealed that after oral administration of CPF to malerats significantly decreased the mean body weight compared with thecontrol group except at the low dose the decrease was non significantparenchymal cells did not show any age demonstrable relatedalterations in their growth, with the exception of increase inlipofuscin pigment and increase thickness of the connective tissuefibers. It appeared more vascular in young age than in the old one.The zona fasciculata revealed its cells were arranged radiallyin cords and were polygonal in shape. Very often binucleate cellscould be seen in advanced ages. The cells have many small lipidDROPlets and peripherally distributed lipid g1dbU1es. ”’W”ith afivanelligage the fasciculata cells appeared larger and engorged with large
