Some Studies on Avian Influenza in broiler flocks at delta, Egypt

Abstract:
Avian influenza is the most important and dangerous disease in birds, so the rapid and accurate diagnosis is one of the most important methods to control the disease.The poultry industry in Egypt depends on the fattening live bird farms /broiler farms, also the nature of the Egyptian customers in their desirability of purchasing fresh chicken meat, as a largesector of Egyptians depend on the poultry industry as a source oftheir income, the delta region is considered as one of most higherregions in poultry density and productivity in the field of poultrybroiler industry.There were spread of symptoms of avian influenza in that region, as well as the high mortality a survey on 100 farms from different five provinces in the Delta region that suspected of being infected with avian influenza, some of the symptoms that has appsymptoms including ataxia, torticollis, paralysis in wings and legsand recumbence.) The examined samples were collected from Dakahleia and Damietta and Sharkeia, Gharbeia, Kafr elsheakh in this study during the period from 02/0112010 till 28/12/2010including 10 tracheal swabs and 5 cloacal swabs from each farmunit. And the rapid field test has been applied as well. Then samplesof animals showing positive direct fecal smear; the latter is a sensitive,field & quick test.3- Stool examination of 600 humans of different age & sex, all overMenofia governorate centers for giardial detection. The infectious ratein the governorate was 24.67% & both sexes were equally infected ..4- Highest infectious rate was in El-Shohada Center, followed by BirketEl-Sabaa & Quesna ”equal”, then El-Sadat, Tala, El-Bagour, Ashmon,Shebein El-Koom & the lowest rate in Menof. Some centers showedincreased rate in females than males.5- Infectious rate was high in infants (34%), followed ’by pre-schoolchildren (29%), then basic education children (21 %) & lastly Inadolescents & adults (19% & 11 % respectively) in the governorate.6- The ratio between recovered trophozoites & cysts in examined humanstool was 1 : 7.22.
