Abstract:
Synopsis of studyPrefaceThe educational process is not confined to the daily lessons or what goes on within the directed education or the teaching of the various subjects specified by methodology .There are rather other means which help in the preparation of pupils, educating them in a manner that enhances their skills ,gifts and personalities through school activities in the linguistic ,religious ,social and technical fields.Subject of the studyThe subject of the study concentrates on identifying the efficiency of school journalism and the gratifications achieved through acquiring various skills that have a significant impact on developing students’ personalities and providing them with several values and concepts which agree with the nature of our society ,and with students’ abilities of creation and integration within the society naturally ,and with discovering different talents ,developing them and directing them correctly through investing them within the different positive fields.Significance of the studyThis study gains significance on both the scientific and social level. On the social level, students’ evaluation from their own point of view –being the audience aimed at through school journalism-can help in establishing a scientific view as a basis for developing the presented programs: on the scientific and theoretical level ,it gains significance as the studies that have applied the theory of uses and gratifications are somehow little in number concerning the school environment in Egypt.ObjectivesThis study aims at answering the questions concerning school journalism and the students’ abilities to remember the presented content and feel satisfied about what is presented.This study also aims at identifying the range of students’ participation in school journalism and how they benefit from it.This study also aims at determining the students’ use of school journalism, their motives and how they participate in it and identify the achieved gratifications.The study seeks to determine the relationship between the demographic variables on the part of students and the variables concerning school journalism.Type of studyThis study is considered a descriptive one that aims at analyzing and evaluating the characteristics of a certain group in a way to determine the relationship between students and school journalism and to identify how much they depend on it for getting information, knowledge and being acquainted with their motives in participating in school journalism and the achieved gratifications.Method of the studyThis study uses the (method of survey) ,being one of the most appropriate methods for this study .Therefore ,a survey has been conducted upon a sample of secondary-stage students in Cairo and Sharkia in order to identify the basic characteristics that distinguish those students and the range of their interest in it and their motives and the achieved gratifications ; in addition to a content analysis of the printed school journals in Cairo and SharkiaStudy SampleThe geographic society: it is determined to the governorates of Cairo and Sharkia.The human society: it is determined to secondary-stage students in Cairo and Sharkia ,by equally implementing upon males and females.The study toolsThe researcher focused on the following main tools:A content analysis model for printed school journals.A questionnaire form for subject students.The most important results-There is a positive correlation between reading school journals and the ritualistic and beneficial motives .There is no significant correlation between reading school journals and beneficial motives-There is a correlation between reading school journals and the achieved gratifications.-There is a statistically significant relation between gender and motives, for the supremacy of females. There is also a significant relation between place of residence and motives with the supremacy of sharkia students. There is a statistically significant relation between gender and the semi-instructive and the social gratifications .There is no correlative relation between gender and instructive and semi-social gratifications. There is also no relation between place of residence and the gratifications achieved from reading school journals.-There is a statistically significant relation between students’ participation in school journalism and reading them attentively.-There is a statistically significant relation between beneficial motives and instructive and social gratifications. There is also a relation between ritualistic motives and semi-instructive and semi-social gratifications .There is no significant relation between beneficial motives and semi-instructive and semi-social gratifications. There is no relation between ritualistic motives and the instructive and social gratifications.
