Abstract:
The presence of some phenol derivatives such as pyrogallol, p-cresol and p-nitrophenol during bleaching of dissolving bagasse pulp resulted in a better stabilization of the long-chain cellulose macromolecules. A significant effect took place in the fine structure of the pulp as indicated by higher affinities towards water and alkali and better chemical reactivity.
