Abstract:
Chapter one: draws a portrail of two outlooks to patriotism: the idealistic and the reatistic. Idealistically, the hero figghts for reward and glory. The traditional hero sacrifices life for honour. But, the two world wars destroyed this myth of heroism. The chapter in question deals with the impact of world war i on English poetry. The actual outbreak of the first world war was greeted with enthusiasm; the majority of 1914 people were innocent. Chapter Two: Shows the impect of world war ll on modern poetry. Such an impact is investigated in the poetry of: . A) W.H: Auden, (1907-1973) B) Roy Fuller (1912-1991). C) Keith Douglas. (1920-1944) The choice of these poets is based upon the fact that each one had adopted a unique and a rather individual approach when the war broke out. Theses poets (W.H Auden, Roy Fuller and Keith Douglas) became more pessimistic, more concerned with their own situation as individuals and they were representatives of their middle class Marxists.
