Abstract:
The chapter division of this study is designd on a psychoanalytic basis which often necessitates psychoanalysis, contrast and comparison of aspects pertaining to the shosen female characters. Thus, this study is divided into seven chpabters, a conclusion, suggested topics for further research, and a bibliography. chapter one is a critical survey of previus literature and shows the limitations of non-psychoanalytic approaches to the plays of both authors. Chapter Two presents the approach of the , study, comparative psychoanalytic criticism, freudian psychoanalysis and the psychoanalytic concepts used in the study. Chapter three is a psychoanalytic reading of the minds idsen and williams to reveal the psychodynamics of their creativity. Chapter four is a comparative psychoanalytic reading of the mimd of the femele characters as wives in conservative societies. Chapter five psychoanalyzes the fenale characters as mothers, sisters, foster mothers, and women who have been deprived of motherly care in their childhood. Chapter Six probes in to the minds of the female characters as lovers and friends. Chapter Seven psychoanalyzes the female characters as young women as illegitimate or suffering daughters, young women-servants and maids, and victims of males’ misconduct.
