Abstract:
The effect of calcination temperature on the chemical as well as the mineralogical composition of the cement kiln dust were studied using chemical analysis and X-ray diffraction techniques. The results show that the chloride ion and free lime contents decrease whereas the SO3, sodium and potassium ions may be considered unchanged, with increasing calcination temperature of the cement kiln dust. On the other hand, the beta.C2S content increases with calcination temperature. The effect of calcination temperature as well as the content of the cement kiln dust on the activation of slag were studied. The hydration process for the pastes cured up to 90 days was followed using differential thermal analysis techniques and the quantitative determination of chemically combined water content. It can be concluded that the activation of slag increases with increasing the content of the cement kiln dust and the calcination temperature.
