Abstract:
The main experiments were carried out at the CentralLaboratory for Aquaculture Research (CLAR) in AbbassaVillage at Abu Hammad District, Sharkia Governorate during of2010-2011 seasons to test and evaluate the performance ofmodified hammer mill machine during rice straw chopping underlocal conditions. The objectives of the present study are:Development and evaluation of hammer mill for millingand chopping rice straw to suit the small farms for protecting theenvironment from pollution from the burning of rice straw.Three experimental groups were carried out. The firstgroup was run under three different drum speeds (2600, 3300and 4000 rpm). The second group was carried out under fourdifferent concave hole diameters 3, 6, 12 and 18 mm. While thethird group was under three different knife numbers of 16, 24and 32 with two knives shapes (rectangular and pyramidal).Evaluation of the above parameters was carried out takinginto consideration the machine capacity, machine efficiency, fineness degree, energy requirements and chopping cost. The obtained results reveal the following points:For using the hammer mill to rice straw chopping withmaximum machine performance it operates under thefollowing conditions:1- Drum speed of 4000 rpm linear speeds of (54.45 m/s).2- Use the pyramidal knives shape.3- Concave hole diameter of 18 mm.4- Knife numbers of 24.
