Abstract:
The main experiments were carried out during the agricultural seasons of 2010/2011 at Kafer El-Hamam, Research Station, Sharkia Governorate to develop corn shelling machine to suit green pea shelling and experimentally evaluate its performance. The objectives of this research are to:1.Develop a machine to be suitable for shelling green pea.2.Select the optimum conditions to operate the developed machine.3.Evaluate the developed machine from the economic point of view.Preliminary experiments were carried out to develop the corn sheller to be suitable for shelling green pea through several stages. After each stage, the machine was operated and the performance indicators were recorded until optimum modification was obtainedField experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the developed machine under different drum speeds, different seed moisture contents and different feeding rates.Evaluation of the developed machine was done taking into consideration grain losses, shelling efficiency, consumed fuel, power, energy and shelling cost. The optimum experimental results obtained from the developed machine for shelling green pea were under the following conditions:1.Drum speed of less than 10.26m/s to decrease total losses and increase efficiency.2.The feed rate of less than 6.0 kg/min to decrease unshelled pods.3.Moisture content of more than 63.5% for shelling green pea to be suitable for fresh consumption.
