The over-increasing population of Egypt is a major problem that necessitates the agricultural development and increasing productivity of cultivated lands to cope with food security demands. Undoubtedly, the cultivated lands which are mainly restricted to the Nile Delta and valley are quite limited and even the current agricultural development programs of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation cannot fulfill the essential needs of the present and anticipated population growth. Besides, the tendency of private sector to export agricultural products has complicated the situation.
