Abstract:
The present work was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the old constructed subsurface drainage systems on some soil physical, hydrological, and chemical properties. The study was carried out in two areas in Sharkia Governorate named Mashtul and Nebtit areas. One collector drain was selected at Mashtul pilot area, while three collector drains were selected at Nebtit area. Mashtul pilot area was provided by subsurface drainage system since 1980, while Nebtit area was in 1978.Three drainage units 7, 8, and 9 were selected at collector (I) in Mashtul pilot area including drain depths of 1.2 and 1.5 m, while lateral drain spacing is 30 m. At selected collector drains 5, 8, and 19 in Nebtit area the drain depth is 1.2 m and drain spacing is 40 m. Several auger holes for soil sampling were made at the two studied areas to determine some soil physical and chemical properties.
