Abstract:
The red-orange, charge-transfer product formed by mixing picryl chloride (the acceptor) and the cyclic polyamine 1,4,8,12-tetraazacyclopentadecane (TACPD) in chloroform has been investigated spectrophotometrically using UV-VIS, and IR methods. The results indicate the formation of a 1:2 charge-transfer complex having the formula {[}(TACPD) (acceptor)(2)], which is in agreement with the ratio concluded from the elemental analysis of the solid product. The absorption band for the complex formed appears at 395 nm and is assigned to the CT-transition. The various observed infrared absorption bands for that complex are also assigned.
