Engineering study on water desalination

Seven designs of solar still have been investigated and tested for its performance under different design modifications with aim of maximizing the solar still productivity. from the data obtained, it can be concluded that, increasing the solar radiation by 73% (from 2.06 to 7.71 kW/m2.day) caused an production increment by 60% (from 3.3 to 8.2 lit/m2.day). The overall daily efficiency and the thermal efficiency decrease with increasing the daily solar radiation, this due to the increase of the thermal losses from the still unit which results from the increase in the still basin temperature.
