Abstract:
Genetic improvement of crops have very often been attempted with great success, particularly through a proper understanding of the mode of inheritance of economic traits . It is also important to have a knowledge of the genetic architecture as the parental material at hand in order to plan a succeful breeding programme . The technique of diallel analysis of Hayman (1954 a,b) has been effectively uesd in self-and cross-pollinated crops to provide a picture of the genetic behaviour of the parents and the extent and nature of heterosis, dominance, genic interaction and other non-additive effects, contributing to the phenotypic variance for a particular trait . The present study was carried out to obtain some informations about the effect of the environment on general and specifc combinig ability, on the magnitude of genetic components of variations, and on the stability performance of a 5x5 diallel cross for some morphological characters, yield and yield components of tomato.
