Abstract:
The present study was designed in the Department of Poultry, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University, Zagazig, Egypt. The experimental work was carried out in Poultry Research Center, Department of Poultry Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt. During the period from June, 2004, till August, 2004.A total number of fifty four weanling Spanish V-line rabbits of both sexes at 5 weeks of age (average body weight of 723.24 + 70.96 g) were used. Rabbits were randomly divided into nine equal groups (6 rabbits / treatment), 3 rabbits (replicates / treatment). The rabbits of the first group were kept without injection and served as a control group, while, rabbits of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th groups were injected subcutaneously (under neck skin) weekly by vitamin A at levels of 1200(A1) and 2400 (A2) I.U. / kg body weight (BW) and by vitamin C at levels of 250 (C1)and 500 (C2) mg / kg BW, respectively. Rabbits of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th groups were injected subcutaneously (under neck skin) weekly by vitamins A and C at levels of 1200 I. U plus 250 mg, 1200 I. U plus 500 mg, 2400 I.U. plus 250 mg and 2400 I.U. plus 500 mg / kg BW, respectively, for 8 weeks treatment period. It could be concluded that injection of Spanish V-line growing rabbits with vitamins A and / or vitamin C caused an insignificantly improve in live body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion and carcass characteristics, however, the mortality rate was within the normal range. Furthermore injection of vitamin A and/or vitamin C to growing rabbits had deleteriously affects on blood haematological or biochemical parameters.
