Rice is an important cereal crop all over the world. In Egypt, the rice area was doubled during the last thirty years. The area was increased from an average of 519,000 feddans during the period 1950-1954 to 1,095,000 feddans during the period l97O-I974. The rice area exceeded one million feddan for the first time in 1967 and maintained a high level (1,164,000 feddans) during the 1968-1972 period. During 1970-1974 period rice production reached an average of 2.4 million tons of rough or unmilled rice. Thus Egypt became an important rice exporting country. The present study was taken up to investigate the following points: Effect of duration of weed competition and weed control treayments: on rice yield. Effect of herbicide applications on broadcasted rice weeds Effect of herbicions transplanted rice weeds Effect of weed control treatments on rice stand, growth charcters and yield component.
