Abstract:
One of the major aims in agricultural policy of the A.R.E. is to increase the cultivated lands by horizontal expansion, to cope with the ever increasing demands of the over growing population, which increases at an alarming rate. Consequently, the government is planning to install many facilities to expand the agricultural area, beside supporting research and development of the cultivated land to maintain their production at a feasible limit. To fulfil the horizontal expansion aim, the desert lands are more concerned. Among the areas suitable for such agricultural expansion, those occupying south Ismaelya Canal between Belbeis and Ismaelya, including Wadi EI-Tumeilat are quite promising localities in the eastern fringes of the Delta region. This area is characterized by mild topographic features and arid climatic conditions. In this area, several places are under reclamation both for agricultural purposes (El-Mullak and EI-Salhia Districts) and for Urrban development (Ramadan 10-city). The surface in such area is essentially dominated by sands and gravels belonging to the ancient elevated terraces of the Nile Delta (Pro-Delta) and is at present, subjected to strong deflation processes . The present work is undertaken to predict soil genesis and formation on basis of their geomorphological, morphological, pgysical, physical, chemical and mineralogical characteristies.
