Abstract:
The Egyptian sheep belong to the fat-tailed breeds and the fleece is a carpet type of medium length they are raised primarily for meat and secondarily for wool production . The Ossimi sheep are the most popular and wide apread breed one. They are characterized with relatively, low fertility. Improvement of Ossimi sheep could be achieved by improving their genetical constitution,as well as, the non-genetic factors under which they are raised. The genetical constituion of the Ossimi sheep could be improved through interse selection or crossing with breeds of high fertility. However, improvement of fertility through selection would require a long time to attain and appreciable response, since fertility components are genetically known to be of low heritability values. The aim of the present study was to investagate the effect of level of protein and source of protein in the flushing rations on reprodutive performance of ossimi ewes, under three lambing seasons per two years system.
