Abstract:
The high rate of increase in the density of the population in the United Arab Republic, is one of the main eminent problems. It could be solved by increasing the productivity of the arable lands which are now under cultivation. To obtain this increase different factors should be taken into consideration namely, the organic matter content, the nitrogen supply, irrigation frequencies, the suitable quantity of irrigation water, drainage system, adequate fertilization and many other factors, the current research tackled the effect of the compost made of different plant residues on the productivity of the soil. Generally, the soils of the U.A.R. are poor in organic matter content as it reaches at the maximum 2.2% It has bean suggested that it is valuable to use the farm residues as a compost material to raise the percentage of organic matter in soils and consequently to improve the productivity through a better soil structure. Therefore, in the current work, it was thought of importance to study the effect of different composts of plant residues on the yields of wheat as well as corn. Also, the chemical influence of these waste products on soils has been taken into consideration.
