Abstract:
Egypt is among the most density populated countries in the world . All efforts should be made to devise plans to secure a balanoed growth of agrioultural production to such in population growth. This efforts oan be achieved by puting new areas under cultivation and raising of agricultural produce coming from the cultivated soils. Classification of the arable soils of Middle Delta of Egypt indioates that there are about 75 % of these soils are salt affected soils. in this area, topography · plays an important role with respect to salinization and alkalinization which might affect the physical and depth of ground water in these soils. In general, these soils have a relatively high water table which affect their produotivity. The salts usually move upward from the high ground water by capi11ary rise and evaporation resulting in soil salinity. The aim of the present work is to establish some limits of salinity and alkalinity as related to soil and ground water as a guide for soil productivity.
