Studies on the Utilization of Heterosis in Breeding of Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum)

the present investigation aimes to study the possiblity of making use of some known commercoal hybrids in developing one or more varietal hybrids that can be produced locally.this would make it possible to produce hybrid seeds at cheeper costs. for this puropose a number of dutch hybrids was crossed with two of the most common tomato cultivars in egypt, their f1s were carefuly examined for any heterotic manifestation in yield. the segregating generations derived from the original dutch hybrids as well those resulting from crossing the hybrids with local varieties were evaluated.
