Abstract:
Studies on the sbundance, types, and activities of microorganisms are essentail to the metabolism and productivty of lakes . Baier (1935) emphasized the important of microorganisms as biochemical agents and as source of food for dissolved substances or lake productivity is directly related to number of bacteria found in the lake . The level of water in the lake is kept nearly constant by pumping out the excess water to the sea . The depth of water varies 0.5 to 1 - 5 metres . The area of of this lake is about 5900 feddans . The Objects of this study were to investigate the distribution of bacteria in Hydrodrome, Lake Maryut, and Lake Idku, to determine the ralative abundance of some important bacterial group involved in the motabolism of the lakes and to study the aerobic decomposition of aquatic plants.
