Abstract:
Lathyrus Odoratus, Linn., (swweet Pea) originated in sicily. It is a popular annual flowering plant that belongs to the family Leguminosae . Sweet pea has many varieties of attractive colors and fragrant flowers . There are three types of sweet pea , summer-flowering, winter-flowering and spring-flowering . The winter-flowering type which is usually grown in Egypt, was originated by A nthony C. Zvolanek in January 1892 . Sweet pea is grown commercially in Egypt, Southern Europe , parts of the United States of America and many countries with similar climatic conditions, for the use of its cut flowers . Being a Leguminous plant , sweet pea can utilize the atmospheric nitrogen through the symbiotic association with root nodule bacteria, and also absorbs a part of the nitrogen available in the soil. The aim of this investigation is to study the effect of inoculation and nitrogen fertilization on the growth and flowering of sweet pea plants.
