Abstract:
The primary goal of the livestock producer is the increase in the efficiency of animal protein production. this was acoplished primarily by genetics selection and by nutritional means. Science about 1950, various estrogenic or estrogenic-like matrials have been injected, added to the diet or implanted into sheep and cattle as growth promoters to improve its performance. Howeve, growth promoters based upon estrogenic compounds showed certain disadvantages. Zeranol a non – steroid chemical compound is one of the new growth promoters recently cleared by the food and drug Administration . It is a derivative of metabolite of selected strain of Gibberelle Zeae and currently available as Ralgro. The chemical name of Zeranol is 6- ( 6, 10 dihydroxyundecyl )-B- resorcylic aoid-u-lactone. The Ralgro implant is a new concept in producing increased rate of gain and greater feed efficiency in all olasses of beef cattle. The objectives of the present work to study the effect of zeranol implantation asa growth promoter on body gain, feed efficiency lood components and slaughtering test of suckling and weaned male egyptian buffalo and oattle calves.
