Milk Prodution from Local Breeds Of Sheep

In Egypt, the potentiality of local breeds of sheep for milk production is not clearly identified. The present study aimed to estimate milk production for Rahamani, Ossimi and Baraki local sheep in Egypt , using different methods of estimates . The milk curve of the three breeds was drown in order to determine the early weaning age of the lamb under the sydtem of the tbree lamb crops pert wo years. The effects of breed , age , body weight , level of feeding during late pregnancy and lactation and season of lambing of the ewe on milk production were studied . The effect of number of lambs suckled on milk production in Rahmani ewes were also studied . The resulys arrived at in this work will furnish a good base for improvement in sheep, whether for increasing their milk production or improving their lamb performance.
