Abstract:
The main experiments were carried out during the agricultural season of (2011/2012) at Wadi EL Natrown on Farm Irrigation Department Research Station, Water Management and Irrigation Systems Research Institute, El-Bohera Governorate, to study the water saving with the use of three different irrigation systems under Egyptian conditions. The objectives of the study are to:1. Study the effect of different irrigation systems, water regimes, planting dates and utilization of compost on water saving crop yield and water use efficiency.2. Manage the control unit of the irrigation systems using soil moisture sensors.3. Evaluate the studied irrigation systems from the economic point of view. The performance of three different irrigation systems (trickle, subsurface and sprinkler irrigation) in terms of actual irrigation water requirements, crop yield, water use efficiency and water saving was experimentally investigated under conditions of sugar-beet planting in sandy soil. Water saving through using three irrigation systems was studied as a function of change in water regime of (100, 75 and 50%) and planting dates (1st Oct., 20th Oct. and 10th Nov.). Water saving was also recorded in the case of planting using compost comparing with the case of planting with no compost. Water saving was also recorded in the case of using automatic irrigation compared with normal irrigation.
