Abstract:
Blood group antigens are reactive sites on the red cell membrane that are detected by specific antibodies. The classifications of isoantigen on the surface of erythrocy’tes are defined as blood groups. The term ”system” is employed to refer to the groups of antigens belonging together (Gebriel, 1989a). In recent years, recognition of the necessity of preserving the gene stock of various native breeds has repeatecl by called attention to blood group testing. The blood typing of poultry gives an useftii help in the theory of genetical and immunological basic research and in the practice of animal improving selection work (Jiangtao et al., 1996).The red cell antigens fonning the basis of blood groups are controlled by the respective allele. Genes, existence of any significant relationship between blood group genotypes and performance traits may help to identify a selection critetion, which can be used in early life and minimLze or obviate later recording of performance. This could also be as a result of shortening the generation interval and thereby helps in increasing the genetic gain per unit of time (Gebriel, 1991 a). The Present work aimes to study the relationship between blood groip allels at the 13-locus and the productive and reproductive traits of silver montazah chickens as localstrains the gene and genotgpe frequencies of the B-blood group alleles were also estimated.
