Abstract:
Rice, the stable food for nearly one half of world’spopulation. It is the cheapest source of energy and supplies some minerals and vitamins. In future of rice cultvation in Egypt depend upen breeding for drought resistance because, the cultivated varieties (low land) require large amount of water, as well as the available amount of irrigation water from River Nile is not only limited but liable to decrement year after year due to competition of other water usages in the country, i.e, human and industry consumpitions. The present study has aimed to determine the genetic behaviour of eight quality characters, i.e.,100 grain weight,(volume) length/breadth ratio (shape) amylose content and gelatinization temprature (GT) as cooking quality and nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sodium contents as nutreint quality under normal (submergence) and drought (mild regine of irrigation ) conditions by using five different varieties.
