This study aimed to investigate the effect of using aerobic and anaerobic training on the development of certain physical variables, physiological variables, and the performance level of selected basketball skills among young female basketball players.
The study examined the development of physical variables, including muscular endurance, speed endurance, muscular power, transitional speed, reaction speed, agility, and cardiorespiratory endurance. It also investigated physiological variables, including resting and post-exercise heart rate, systolic blood pressure at rest and after exercise, diastolic blood pressure at rest and after exercise, blood lactate concentration at rest and after exercise, vital capacity, and maximum oxygen consumption (VO₂ max). In addition, the study evaluated the performance level of basketball skills, namely passing, dribbling, shooting, and defensive movements.
The researcher employed the experimental method using a one-group experimental design with pre- and post-measurements, as it was appropriate for the nature of the study. The research population and sample consisted of 20 female basketball players representing the basketball team of the Faculty of Sports Sciences during the academic year 2025/2026. Eight players were selected for the pilot study, leaving a final research sample of 12 players.
The results revealed the following:
1- The training program based on aerobic and anaerobic exercises led to significant improvement in the physical variables of muscular endurance, speed endurance, muscular power, transitional speed, reaction speed, agility, and cardiorespiratory endurance among the young female basketball players.
2- The training program based on aerobic and anaerobic exercises resulted in improvement in the physiological variables, including resting and post-exercise heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure at rest and after exercise, blood lactate concentration at rest and after exercise, vital capacity, and maximum oxygen consumption (VO₂ max).
3- The training program based on aerobic and anaerobic exercises led to improvement in the performance level of basketball skills, including passing, dribbling, shooting, and defensive movements among the young female basketball players.
