Assessment of minute ventilation recovery time as a predictor of weaning outcomes: comparison of two methods

Abstract:
This prospective cohort study included 300 mechanically ventilated patients to compare two methods of measuring minute ventilation recovery time (MVRT) for predicting weaning success. MVRT1, MVRT2, and RSBI were significantly higher in patients with extubation failure, while MVRT1 at a cutoff of ≤9 minutes showed the best predictive performance. MVRT1 achieved 100% sensitivity, 99% specificity, and 99.7% accuracy, supporting it as the more accurate method for predicting successful weaning.
