Abstract:
Fusarium root rot is a major soil-borne disease affecting cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) production. This study aimed to identify Fusarium species from cucumber roots in Al-Sharqia and Ismailia Governorates, Egypt, using morphological and phylogenetic analysis. Four isolates of Fusarium solani and two of F. semitectum were identified, with F. solani (isolate 2) showing the highest pathogenicity. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed 100% sequence identity of F. solani isolate 2 to reference strains. The efficacy of three fungicides, hymexazol (Hymexate 30% SL), 8‑hydroxyquinoline sulfate (Sirshanol 50% SL), and potassium peroxymonosulfate (Virkon® S 1% W/V), was evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. While 8‑hydroxyquinoline sulfate was most effective in vitro, Virkon S was superior in reducing disease incidence and promoting cucumber growth under greenhouse conditions. These findings highlight the identification of Fusarium species infecting cucumber in Egypt and provide insights into effective disease management strategies.
