Abstract:
Purpose: This study aims to examine the role of Digital Twin (DT) technology in supporting the pillars of the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) in Arab countries. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study adopts a descriptive–analytical approach to explore the relationship between digital twin technologies and the implementation of circular carbon economy principles, with a focus on the technological and institutional context in Arab countries. Findings: The findings indicate that achieving carbon neutrality in Arab countries requires a transition from the traditional concept of Digital Twin (DT) to an Adaptive Digital Twin System (DTS), which leverages Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to enable accurate and integrated tracking of the carbon cycle within the CCE framework. Despite the region possessing promising carbon capture capabilities (estimated at around 10% of global capacity) the transition toward digital twin systems faces significant challenges, including high implementation costs and a shortage of specialized human resources. Originality/Value: This study provides valuable insights by linking advanced digital technologies with circular carbon economy strategies in the Arab context. It proposes a strategic roadmap for the period (2026–2035) that emphasizes standardizing digital twin frameworks, adopting supportive policies such as carbon pricing and green bonds, investing in digital infrastructure for supply chain data, and developing national human capacities, thereby contributing to transforming climate challenges into sustainable economic opportunities and enhancing regional leadership in the green economy.
