Background: Mucociliary clearance is an important parameter for assessment of the procedure used for the surgical treatment of hypertrophied inferior turbinate. In this study, the nasal mucociliary clearance was assessed objectively by methylene blue after Diode Laser turbinoplasty. This study aimed to assess the validity of the methylene blue dye to assess the mucociliary clearance objectively by comparing it to the standard saccharine test after submucosal diode laser turbinoplasty. Methods: This study was applied to 60 patients complaining of nasal obstruction due to inferior turbinate hypertrophy. The patients were managed by submucosal diode laser application in the inferior turbinate. The nasal mucociliary clearance was evaluated objectively by the methylene blue combined saccharine test. Results: The nasal mucociliary clearance was significantly improved 1 month after submucosal diode laser turbinoplasty. There was no statistical difference in mucociliary clearance measured subjectively by the saccharine test and mucociliary clearance measured objectively by the methylene blue for the studied cases. Conclusion: Methylene blue technique is a satisfactory, safe, and comfortable method for assessment of nasal mucociliary clearance.
