Abstract:
Cardiovascular toxicity is considered the most predominant adverse effect of anticancer therapy and is associated with elevated mortality rate. Sunitinib is an antineoplastic agent that belongs to the TKI family. Despite its great efficacy against numerous tumors, its use is restricted due to the accompanying cardiotoxic effects including MI, hypertension, LV dysfunction and fibrosis. Various contributors have been identified to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of cardiotoxicity and MF such as inflammation and oxidative stress. Moreover, activation of the OPG/RANK/RANKL as well as the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways is potentially linked to ventricular remodeling and cardiac fibrosis.
