The aim of this research is to demonstrate the impact of the food gap on inflation in Egypt. The importance of this research stems from its addressing one of the vital issues affecting economic and social security in Egypt: the food gap and its impact on inflation rates. The research seeks to analyze the evolution of the food gap in Egypt during the period (2000–2023), and to identify and measure the relationship between the food gap and inflation in Egypt. The research reached several results, the most important of which are: the validity of the research hypothesis; that the food gap has a dual effect (immediate and delayed) on inflation; and that the general budget deficit gradually contributes to creating inflationary pressures, reflecting the importance of financial reform. Furthermore, the indirect impact of reform programs, through reducing support for local production and raising the costs of agricultural inputs, has hindered efforts to bridge the food gap. At the same time, dependence on external sources has increased, thus increasing inflationary pressures. The research recommended addressing the structural imbalance in the food trade balance to achieve food security. It also recommended aligning economic reform programs with food production development policies, developing social protection programs to counter the effects of rising prices and mitigate the burden of food inflation, and expanding early warning systems and strategic storage to reduce exposure to global markets.
