Abstract:
The aim of the current research is to find out the prevalence of attitudes towards feminism and its dimensions among general diploma students in education students, as well as to study the differences between male and female students in attitudes towards feminism and its dimensions, and to study the relationships between attitudes towards feminism and its dimensions and self-esteem. The sample consisted of 679 general diploma students, and the average age of this sample was 25.12, with a standard deviation of 9.16. The attitudes toward feminism scale (prepared by the researcher) and the self-esteem scale (translated and codified by the researcher) were applied. The results revealed a prevalence of attitudes towards feminism at a rate of 84.50%. There are statistically significant differences between the male and female students in attitudes toward feminism and its dimensions (workplace roles, women’s rights, gender equality, and gender role) in favor of female students. There are no statistically significant differences between male and female students in attitudes toward family responsibilities. There is also a moderate negative statistically significant relationship between attitudes toward family responsibilities and self-esteem in male students. There are no statistically significant relationships between attitudes toward feminism and its dimensions (workplace roles, women’s rights, gender equality, and gender role) and self-esteem in male students. There is no statistically significant relationship between attitudes toward family responsibilities and self-esteem in female students. There is a negligible statistically significant relationship between attitudes toward workplace roles and self-esteem in female students. There are small statistically significant relationships between attitudes toward feminism and its dimensions (women’s rights, gender equality, and gender role) and self-esteem in female students.
