Hand weaving is considered one of the artistic fields distinguished by its unique nature, characterized by specific methods of execution and functional roles that have placed it at the forefront of essential manual practices in daily life, such as the production of fabrics, clothing, and household furnishings, including carpets. Over time, this craft evolved from a purely utilitarian practice into an independent art form that harmonizes the authenticity of traditional techniques with the innovations of modern industry—marked by advanced methods of execution, the development of materials, and the use of diverse tools. This transformation has made hand weaving a fertile domain for acquiring artisanal skills, particularly in relation to crafts and small-scale industries. Semi-handmade carpets, in particular, represent a significant branch of textile arts, holding high artistic and aesthetic value. They have transcended traditional boundaries and emerged in new forms that can be adapted to meet the needs of contemporary markets. This adaptability has contributed to their growing demand in recent years within local markets. Furthermore, training and skill development, especially for women, align with the Egyptian state’s strategic orientation toward achieving economic development by integrating women breadwinners into the labor market. Women are recognized as a vital productive force capable of enhancing household economies through economic empowerment. Building upon this vision, the researcher implemented a training program targeting a group of women breadwinners and rural leaders in Al-Sharqia Governorate, focusing on the production of semi-handmade tufted pile carpets. The program aimed to provide participants with the necessary artistic and technical skills, such as preparing and stretching fabric on the loom, readying threads, using the tufting gun, and applying pile yarns onto pre-designed patterns.
