Forms of sexual harassment predicting post-traumatic stress disorder from a female's perspective
Abstract
The current research aimed to identify forms of sexual harassment that predict post-traumatic stress disorder from a female point of view, and the research sample consisted of (714) females, whose ages ranged from (20-30) years, with an average age of (23,61)., And a standard deviation (2.62), and the descriptive approach was relied upon, and to achieve the objectives of the research, the researchers used a set of tools after verifying their psychometric characteristics, which were the scale of forms of sexual harassment as perceived by females, and the scale of post-traumatic stress disorder for female victims of sexual harassment, both of which were prepared by the researchers, The researchers reached a set of results, represented in the non-commonness of sexual harassment in all its forms from the point of view of the female study sample, and that their exposure to it was at a low degree, as well as the non-commonness of post-traumatic stress disorder among them, and the results also found that there is a positive correlation with statistical significance at the level of ( 0.01) between the total score of sexual harassment and its sub-dimensions and the total score of post-traumatic stress disorder and its sub-dimensions for them, and then the dimensions of the sexual harassment scale "physical harassment, verbal harassment, electronic harassment, and harassment of gestures", respectively, predicted the total degree of post-traumatic stress disorder and its sub-dimensions for them, There are also statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the mean scores of each of female residents of the countryside and the city in the total degree of sexual harassment and its sub-dimensions, which are "verbal harassment, gesture harassment, and electronic harassment" in favor of female residents of the city. There are also statistically significant differences. between the mean scores of each of the females (over 25 years old) and (younger than 25 years old) at the level of (0.01) in the total score for sexual harassment and the physical harassment dimension, and at the level of (0.05) in the two dimensions of "verbal harassment and electronic harassment"; The differences were in favor of females (over 25 years old), Also, there are no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of their scores in the sub-dimensions of the sexual harassment scale and the total score due to the marital status variable (Married/ Not Married); The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores on the post-traumatic stress disorder scale in the total score and the sub-dimensions attributable to the variables of place of residence, age, and marital status. In light of the research results, a set of recommendations were put forward.
