Abstract:
The current study aims to re-validate the psychometric properties of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Symptom Scale by recalculating its validity, reliability, and norms on a larger clinical sample. The scale was administered to a sample of 301 individuals diagnosed with OCD and 113 healthy controls. Validity was assessed through internal consistency and discriminant validity. Reliability was calculated using Cronbach's alpha and the split-half method. Additionally, subscales were redefined, and updated norms for the scale were established. The study concluded that the OCD Symptom Scale is a tool designed to be compatible with the Egyptian society, achieving high levels of reliability and validity. The norms were recalculated to help determine symptom severity. The number of items was not reduced, as all items were statistically significant, precluding the omission of any. It was also deemed appropriate to create a separate, general dimension for religious symptoms.
