The aim of the research is to suggest procedures to plan the academic succession for leaders in the higher education institutions in Egypt based on the comparative and theoretical studies in both Canada and Australia. The researcher used the comparative method which is suitable for the nature of the study. The researcher reached some results, i.e. 1- start planning succession in companies belonging to families to handle the issue of inheriting its ownership. 2- the plans of leadership succession can be designed to suit the needs of every institution separately. 3- The leadership succession is an applied process in higher education institutions to keep the effective leadership during transitional periods. 4- The leadership succession plans are put in accordance the inclusive strategy of the institution, the leadership succession planning should suits with the strategic and functional plans and with the work plans related to the institution. 5- There are training programs dedicated to leadership succession to build future leaders i.e developing the needed leadership skills to achieve the strategic aims of the institution. 6- The Canadian higher education institutions has published the culture of starting thinking in the academic succession resulted in improving the employers performance and reforms. 7- The Canadian universities are committing to select leaders and keeping them from all backgrounds to serve their tasks. 8- Australia is witness high levels of retiring of employers in main and critical positions, retiring is considering a little model of the general retiring swell rate that threat losing the institutional knowledge across the community.
