Abstract:
The sustainability of highway construction projects is a critical consideration in today's environmentally conscious era. This study aims to identify and analyze the critical factors that influence the sustainability of such projects. The research method uses the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to figure out the relative importance of group factors. This lets a full evaluation of sustainability indicators and owner criteria happen. The findings reveal the relative importance of factors within the environmental, economic, and social pillars, as well as the owner criteria of performance, construction time, quality, and constructability. The analysis indicates that factors such as impact on biodiversity, noise pollution, maintenance costs, and social cohesion play significant roles in achieving sustainability objectives. Recommendations to enhance the sustainability of highway construction projects are provided, including measures to mitigate environmental impacts, optimize economic considerations, promote stakeholder engagement, and facilitate effective project management. By adopting these recommendations, highway construction projects can better align with sustainable practices and contribute to a more environmentally responsible and socially beneficial built environment.
