Abstract:
Atotalof150adultquails,aged8wk,weredividedinto5groupstostudytheeffectofsumacseedpowderonreproductiveandproductiveparame-ters,eggquality,digestiveenzymes,andquailbreeders’bloodprofiles.Dietarysupplementscontainingsumacpowderwereformulatedasfollows:group1(G1)(con-trol,onlybasaldiet);group2(G2)(basaldiet+1gsumacpowder/kgdiet);group3(G3)(basaldiet+2gsumacpowder/kgdiet);group4(G4)(basaldiet+3gsumacpowder/kgdiet);andgroup5(G5)(basaldiet+4gsumacpowder/kgdiet).Thefeedconversionratiowassignificantlyhigheratalllevelsofsumacpow-der(P<0.05)comparedtothecontrolgroup(G1).Overall,duringthestudy(8−16wk),quail-fed3gsumacpowder/kgdiet(G4)showednosignificantincrease(P>0.05)inthefeedintakecomparedtothecontrolgroup.Sumacpowdersupplementationsignificantly(P<0.05)increasedeggnumber,eggweight,eggmass,fertility,andhatchability.Whilesupplementingwithsumacpow-derdidnotimpactothereggqualityparameters,itdidsignificantly(P<0.05)increaseyolkpercentage,Haughunit,andunitsurfaceshellweight.Furthermore,whencomparedtothecontrolgroup(G1),birdsgiven2,3,or4gofsumacpowder/kgdietshowedasignificantimprovement(P<0.05)inhematologicalparameterssuchasredbloodcells,whitebloodcells,andhemoglo-bin,aswellasadecreaseinglucoselevels.Feedingquailwitha3gsumacpowder/kgdiet(G4)resultedinsignifi-cantly(P<0.05)higherglobulinlevelsandimprovedalbumin/globulinratiocomparedtoothertreatmentsandcontrol(G1).Sumacpowderintakesignificantly(P<0.05)reducedplasmalipidprofile,liverenzymes(aspartateaminotransferase,andalanineaminotransfer-ase),andkidneyfunctions(creatinine,andurea).Fur-thermore,thesupplementationofsumacpowderresultedinasubstantialincrease(P<0.05)inthelevelsofamylase,lipase,andprotease.Sumacpowderadminis-trationalsosignificantly(P<0.05)improvesimmunitybyboostingIgM,IgG,IgA,andlysozymelevelsinquailbreeders’plasma.Supplementingwithsumacpowder,ontheotherhand,increasedlevelsofreducedglutathi-one,totalantioxidantcapacity,catalase,andsuperoxidedismutase.Theresultsofthecurrentstudyindicatedthattheadditionof1,2,3,and4gofsumacpowdertothedietofJapanesequailbreedersledtoimprovementsineggquality,digestiveenzymes,reproductiveandpro-ductiveperformances,andmostbloodhematologicalandbiochemicalparameters.
