Abstract:
Alopeciaareata (AA) isanautoimmunehair follicledisorder that is challenging to treat.Althoughtherearemultipletopical immunotherapeuticagents,theirsideeffects limit theiruse.Candidaantigencanserveasanother immunotherapeutictreatment, withaneasierapplicationandfewersideeffects.ToevaluatetheefficacyofCandida antigenversusintralesionalsteroidsforthetreatmentofAA.About48adultpatients withAAweredividedintotwogroups.TheCandidagroupincluded24patientswho wereinjectedmonthlywith0.1mLofCandidaalbicansantigeninonepatchofalope cia,andtheintralesionalcorticosteroidgroupincluded24patientswhowereinjected monthlywith0.1mLof triamcinoloneacetonide, asacontrol group, inall alopecia patches.After5months,therewasahighlysignificantdecreaseintheseverityofAA inbothgroupswithnosignificantdifferencebetweenthem. IntheCandidagroup, 8patientsshowedcompletehair regrowthand9patientsshowedpartial regrowth. Sideeffectsweremildandtransientsuchaspainduringinjection,whichwassignifi cantly lower in theCandida group than in the corticosteroidgroup. Intralesional CandidaantigenisapromisingeffectivetreatmentforAAwithdifferingseverities.
