Abstract:
Introduction: Ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis) are common complaints. The 30 wedge resection is one of the management methods of Ingrown toenails which was 31 first described by Winograd in 1929. 32 The aim of this study is to compare between our novel strapping technique 33 (suturless Winograd technique with wound closure using medical adhesive tape) 34 and classic suturing method . 35 Methods: This single-center, prospective, randomized controlled trial to compare 36 strapping technique (group I) and suturing technique (group II) in Winograd 37 procedure. The study included 192 patients, 96 patients in each group. 38 Results: Males represented 56.3% of strapping group versus 65.6% . About 96% 39 of patients group I versus 13.5% of group II had no pain on 7th day. Seventy six 40 percent group I versus 18.8% within group II reported high cosmetic satisfaction. 41 Mean time to return to work was 5.81 days within strapping group versus 8.32 42 days within suturing group. There is statistically non-significant difference 43 between groups regarding occurrence of recurrence or time of recurrence, need to 44 reoperation or infection. 45 Conclusion: strapping technique is comparable to suturing in Winograd procedure 46 with less postoperative pain and early return to work without affecting recurrence 47 and other outcomes.
