Abstract:
Recycling concrete is used in construction by partially substituting coarse aggregate with recycling aggregate or cement by fly ash in order to enhance numerous properties of concrete and provide an environmentally acceptable alternative. In this study, twenty-four framed models were studied in three stages under lateral loads, utilizing the finite element method and the SeismoStruct program for monotonic and cyclic loading. The best recycling concrete mix design and brick type were determined in the first stage by examining twelve single-degree of freedom (SDOF) models. In the second stage, eight multistory single and double-span multi-degrees of freedom (MDOF) models were evaluated as bare and infilled models after achieving the best recycling concrete mix design and brick type. After acquiring the best models from SDOF and MDOF, they were analyzed as bare and infill models as a result of cyclic loading in the third stage. This work experimentally explores the influence of utilizing recycled aggregate and fly ash as alternate normal aggregate and cement respectively in a concrete mix. The concrete design mix included recycled aggregate with aggregate content percentages of (0%, 50%, and 100%) and fly ash with cement content percentages of (0%, 50%). Through the obtained results in this research, it is found that replacing 100% of the natural aggregate with recycled aggregate in the concrete design mix increases the bare frame model resistance by about 4%. Replacement of 100% of natural aggregate with recycled aggregate increased the SDOF model capacity by 4% and 2.6% for (BF) and (IF).
