Abstract:
The research aimed to improve cultural competence among deaf adolescents through a multicultural training program and to verify the program's sustained effectiveness after a follow-up period. The research sample consisted of (20) deaf adolescents from Al-Amal School for the Deaf in Benha, Qalyubia Governorate, aged between (13- 18) years, with an average age of (15.92) and a standard deviation of (1.389). Their IQ scores ranged from (90 – 110), with an average of (102.55) and a standard deviation of (3.927). Their hearing loss ranged from (70- 90) decibels, with an average of (80.60) and a standard deviation of (6.427). They were divided into two equivalent groups, an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of (10) deaf adolescents. The research tools included the Cultural Competence Scale for Deaf Adolescents (translated and standardized by the researcher) and the Multicultural Training Program (developed by the researcher). The research adopted a quasi-experimental methodology. The results indicated the effectiveness of the multicultural training program in improving cultural competence among deaf adolescents. There were statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the experimental and control groups in the post-test measurement of overall cultural competence and its dimensions in favor of the experimental group. Additionally, there were statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test measurements of overall cultural competence and its dimensions in favor of the post-test. No statistically significant differences were found between the mean ranks of the experimental group in the post-test and follow-up measurements of overall cultural competence and its dimensions.
